Top 5 Worst Christmas Songs

I love Christmas music. I really do! But there are some songs that I could do without. Please tell me I'm not the only one. (I'm just writing this to be funny, so if one of your faves is on the list, sorry!!)

1) Grandma got Run over by a Reindeer"
As a kid I remember LOVING this song. Now I'm scratching my head. Grandma gets drunk, goes out, and gets mauled by a Reindeer? Then it's brutally described how the family found her dead the next morning and how Grandpa is thrilled that now he can watch football in peace. ???
I love my grandma, so I have to hate this song.

2) "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas"
Annoying. Gets stuck in my head. I also secretly hate hearing children sing on the radio.

3) "Feliz Navidad"
This isn't the worst Christmas song. Its just that its on the radio about every hour. I don't get what's so great about it.

4) "Happy Birthday Jesus"

Did I mention I secretly hate hearing children sing on the radio. Oh, I hate that I hate this song. I mean, it's precious. A little kid singing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus. I love kids, and I love Jesus more than anything, it's just that when this song comes on, I feel like ripping my ears off just so I don't have to listen to it. Of course the easier option is changing the channel. I have no idea why, but I get super creeped out when I hear kids singing on the radio. I can't even listen to the song "Be Careful Little Eyes" because of the kid singing at the end. Shutter.

5) "Christmas Shoes"

This song is the ABSOLUTE worst Christmas song. Why, oh why do we have to be subjected to such depression around the holidays?? A little boy wants to buy his mom some shoes before she dies so she can be pretty when she meets Jesus. Great, just pass the eggnog now, make it a double. This is just what I want to think about around Christmas, sickness, death, and little boys losing their mommies. Hmm... how do the radio guys follow this one up anyway? Jingle Bell Rock? No, radio listeners need a Zoloft just to be able to stop blubbering long enough to pull the car over. Please. Stop. Playing. This.

That's all I got for now. I did mention that I LOVE Christmas time and Christmas songs?? Here is one of my new FAVORITES! I could listen to this song about 1000 times a day. I liked it enough I even spent the dollar to put it on my iPhone.
It's Brandon Heath's "The Night Before Christmas." Beautiful, intense, emotional, solemn, and joyful... sort of feel the entire weight of the Gospel when I hear it. Now if that isn't a good Christmas song I don't know what is!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas season! Love to all!

  1. haha, this made me laugh. Hunter shares your hatred of kids singing on the radio- or better yet, talking during songs. I dont understand why the same songs come on over and over and over when there are 10 bajillion other, better Christmas songs out there!

  2. Love ya so much, you make me laugh so hard! Who knew that one of biggest kid lovers I know can't stand to hear their sweet voices singing in joy on the radio! :) How do you feel about chipmunks singing Christmas songs?
