There's nothing like watching your spouse hold your child. When I married Stephen I loved him. How my love would grow for him when I saw him as a dad! When David was born it was so scary. He was 6 weeks early and had RDS so he had to be in the NICU. Stephen and David had to bond pretty quick as I was stuck in bed 24 hrs after he was born due to the medicine I was on. Stephen made a lot of elevator rides between his new struggling son, and me still not out of the woods with pre-ecclampsia. Never have I been so in love with someone than those few days right after his birth. Stephen was everything I needed him to be at exactly the right times. He was my rock. He put on a brave face, and calmed my fears even though I'm sure he was having the same ones. He made me laugh when I needed it, he let me cry as much as I wanted, and most of all he loved our little boy right away! The day we got to hold him, he let me hold him first, but I think his turn was longer ;-)
Since then he's been a great Dad. He truly enjoys spending time with David. He's kind of a pushover, but he'll still help out with discipline when he has to. He makes up the best games, even David will tell you that. He's the more cautious one of the two of us, but thats ok. There's just one person in the world that can do no wrong in Stephen's eyes and that is his little boy! He works hard, but chooses to leave work early if he can to see David before he goes to bed. He's always willing to spend those extra minutes before bedtime rocking and singing to him.
I love you honey, thanks for being a great daddy to David and an awesome husband to me! Any day I can celebrate you is a good day! Happy Father's day!
