So today I saved a Sea Turtle. OK, no I didn't really save a sea turtle, but I did wake one up from a nice nap.
I took David to the SC aquarium this morning. We were having a blast! We went to the Ocean Tank. It's a HUGE tank which is home to just about every fish you can imagine from sharks to our beloved sea turtle. After looking at the amazing tank for a few minutes I noticed her. A huge 100 year old (well actually I don't know her age, I'm totally making that up but it could be true) sea turtle laying on the bottom of the tank, head down, flippers up. Fish were surrounding her, pecking at her head, she lay still. We watched for a few minutes. Other families came up, put their kids on the platform and took pictures. All I could think of was "they're taking pictures of their kids in front of a dead sea turtle?"
I took David and found the nearest Aquarium employee with a walkie talkie. I told them what I saw and a few minutes later a diver was in the tank. He went to her and tickled her foot. Nothing. Oh God. Now I'm going to have to watch this poor guy pull a 6,000 lb (making that up too) dead sea turtle out of the water in front of my child.
He tickled her foot again. Nothing.
Come on!
Finally, an eye opens, her head lifts. The diver backs away. The Sea Turtle looks at me as if to say "you just couldn't let me sleep could you lady?"
Relief sets in. No one else seemed at all relieved she wasn't dead. Apparently everyone else knew sea turtles sleep.
It was about all the excitement I needed for the day though.
She did give us a good show!
Totally would have done the same thing and felt just as stressed as you!
